This approach is anchored in co-creation, broad participation and systems-thinking, and follows a structured process for exploring dynamics of change, understanding uncertainties, challenge current assumptions, planning for alternative scenarios and connecting foresight outcomes to strategic purpose. The approach is customizable but is grounded in the use of various foresight and futures studies methodologies and tools as well as over 50 years of experience. The Copenhagen Frame includes the following elements:
1. Future Frame
The project framework is established by defining design principles, articulating a visionary statement, defining the project organisation—including processes, governance, and capabilities—and the desired outcomes, value, and activation strategies.
2. Explore Change
The project methodology includes research design, sensing the system and interpreting its dynamics, and comprehensive data collection.
3. Anticipate Futures
Challenge current assumptions and conventional wisdom through alternative future scenarios and re-perception.
4. Activation and Sensemaking
Identifying the implications that various futures may hold for the subject and distilling relevant insights to inform and curate a mission-driven portfolio of activities and concrete, tangible recommendations.
5. Transforming the Present
Transforming the present refers to inner (individual) and outer (organisational) change as a result of the project.
