Flemming Besenbacher is a Professor of Nanoscience at Aarhus University and the founder of the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (INANO.au.dk). Over the course of his career, he has published 760 peer-reviewed scientific papers and received numerous prestigious awards.
In 2012, Besenbacher transitioned from academia to the business sector, serving as Chairman of the Carlsberg Group and the Carlsberg Foundation from 2012 to 2022. He currently serves on ten boards, chairing six of them. Most of these organisations are dedicated to advancing the green transition and building a more sustainable society.
He has also chaired the Advisory Board on Circular Economy, appointed by the Danish government.
During his tenure as Chairman of the Carlsberg Foundation, he collaborated with CIFS and Voluntas to develop the report “Vision 2050 for Denmark.” In today’s extraordinarily complex, volatile, and rapidly changing world, Besenbacher strongly believes that engaging CIFS in foresight studies will benefit organisations, companies, public institutions, and civil society alike.”
