Futures and Foresight with AI
An exploratory course on how AI is reshaping futures and foresight practice
The landscape of futures and foresight is beginning to undergo a significant transformation. AI is often introduced as a tool for efficiency, but it is increasingly raising deeper questions about how we perceive, imagine, plan, and innovate for the future.
This shift raises deeper questions beyond merely ‘how do we use these tools?’ and asks how AI is affecting the practice of foresight itself.
This is an exploratory and participatory learning journey into what futures and foresight becomes in an AI-mediated reality. Rather than focusing on how to prompt or operate specific tools, we invite you to engage with live examples, cases, and guest speakers on how AI is already entering foresight practice, and to think critically about what that means for your organisation and beyond.
Who is this for?
The course is designed for business leaders, innovation managers, strategic planners, business developers, and foresight practitioners who want to get ahead of how AI is changing the field of futures and foresight.
A brief introduction to strategic foresight is included as part of the learning journey. However, if you want a stronger foundation in foresight methods and practice, we recommend attending CIFS'
Applied Strategic Foresight course prior to this one.
Before you arrive
We share course material ahead of time and we expect participants to engage with it before the course begins. It sets up the foundation we build upon across the two days.
A basic familiarity with foresight and generative AI is an advantage. You don't need to be an expert in either, but the course moves quickly into exploration rather than foresight fundamentals.
We expect participants to be willing to engage in open-ended discussion, experimentation, and critical reflection, along with an interest in exploring not only how AI can support foresight today, but how foresight itself may need to evolve in an AI-mediated world.
What will you learn?
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how AI and foresight may evolve together, and what this means for how organisations can approach foresight practice in an AI-mediated reality.
Throughout the course, we connect established foresight principles with new questions about AI, agency, judgement, cognitive ownership, bias, creativity, and strategic decision-making, while also exploring broader societal considerations.
- Examine uncertainties in AI: Develop a deeper understanding of how AI may reshape foresight, innovation, and strategic decision-making, while critically engaging with risks, dilemmas, and uncharted possibilities.
- Understand emerging shifts in AI-mediated foresight practice: Learn how AI is beginning to influence futures and foresight work through cases, signals, and discussions on alternative futures.
- Support better organisational decisions on foresight and AI: Strengthen your ability to make informed choices about how AI becomes part of foresight practice, and what capabilities, processes, and principles are needed to integrate it meaningfully over time.
- Build community at the frontier: Explore alongside CIFS experts, guest speakers, and a group of peers grappling with the same questions, and develop a sharper framing through the exchange.
What is the course format?
The course takes place over two full days at our location in Copenhagen.
The course combines presentations with group activities facilitated by CIFS Senior Futurists and AI experts Sofie Hvitved and Bugge Holm Hansen.
